Hollyloft Ski & Bike – Jamestown, NY
Hollyloft Ski and Bike began as The Ski Warren in a small storefront on the east side of Warren, Penna. in the fall of 1978. Cross country skiing was going strong at the time and Les Johnson was the local expert on this new and growing sport. They had numerous events for local charities, kids programs, outdoor adventures and lots of community involvement. Good times slowed down with the closing of the local ski area, Buckaloons in Youngsville, Penna. and the weather taking a turn for the warmer. Les closed the Warren store and moved his operation to Jamestown, West Ellicott in 1983. Business started growing again, and to offer his employees full time, year round employment, he added bicycles in 1991. ( The stores had previously closed over the summers for 13 years. ) Les had sold and serviced bikes back in the 70’s during the Great Bike Boom, so to expand into this category was a natural fit.
Hollyloft has made it’s reputation on quality products, great service, knowledgeable staff, sport involvement and going the extra mile to make customers happy. Les has also made it his goal to help beginners learn and experience as well as the most avid riders and skiers. Les was honored last year with and award from Bicycle Retailer Magazine as one of the top 100 bike shops in the U.S. With over 4000 bike shops inthe country, that puts the Hollyloft in the top 2 % of it’s field! This award was won with market share, community involvement, and reputation.
The Hollyloft has a biking group called Team Hollyloft with over 200 strong. It consists of all riders of all ages, from racer to recreational to older riders and even handicapped riders. Tuesday nights 75 – 80 riders gather at the Hollyloft to break into groups and ride southern Chautauqua County. Groups will range from 10 -12 miles to 40+ miles during the evening. This has proven to be a great social event as well as physical with liquid refreshments on the deck after the ride, as well as wine and cheese nights, hot dog nights and sometimes the disco ball comes out and we rock out to “YMCA” on the boom box!
Good times, very friendly staff, quality bikes and accessories, guaranteed expert service and Les’ old fashioned corner store reputation for helping people enjoy their sport make the Hollyloft the place to shop in the western N.Y. area.
